Our Eco Credentials
Our Eco Credentials
At the RSPCA Manchester & Salford Branch we try hard to do our bit for the environment.
At the Animal Centre
- All soiled hay and small animal waste is taken to a local allotment for composting
- All uneaten cat food goes for composting.
- We use recycled plastic bin bags
- We recycle all cardboard, paper and newspaper – even newspaper that has lined a litter tray!
- We use biodegradable disposable aprons.
- Staff and volunteers use disinfectable, communal footwear to reduce use of disposable foot covers.
- We use Cruelty-Free International endorsed products.
- We drink Fair trade tea and coffee.
- We use ‘Who Gives a Cr@p’ ethical toliet roll
At our shops
- Unsold stock is transferred to a different shop within the branch for another chance to be sold.
- Clothing, accessories, jewellery and soft furnishings that are not suitable for sale in the shops are sold on to a third-party recycling company.
- CDs/DVDs/Blu-rays that are in poor condition are sold to a company to be restored and re-sold.
- Items made of metal that are unsuitable for sale in the shops are recycled.
- Electrical items that are faulty or in poor condition are recycled.
- Books that are in poor condition are recycled.
- All cardboard boxes and packaging is recycled.
- We use only Cruelty-Free International endorsed cleaning products at our shops.
- We only buy Fair trade tea and coffee for the break areas in our shops.
Our aspirations
- To use biodegradable disposable gloves.
- To be able to afford recycled ‘blue roll’ for cleaning purposes.
- To have electric vehicles to transport our animals.
